Swim Team

February 14, 2025

While the two LHS Redbirds fell short of their ultimate goal of making the State meet, there were many positives to take away from the 2025 District Swim Meet.

Nicole Rooks competed in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, finishing with personal best times in both. She really found her groove this year in the 500 and finished 10th in the District with a 5:39.14. That time placed her at an impressive 36th in the State, only the top 32 make State. Rooks finished 13th in the breaststroke at 1:12.74, which placed her 51st in the State. Also impressive is the fact that Rooks team score finished 30th in the District, amongst 75 teams.

Cooper Sage also finished both of his races with personal best times. He finished tied for 17th in the 50 freestyle with a 22.85 and 18th in the 100 freestyle with a 50.18. His 100 freestyle also bettered his school record from earlier in the season. As for State rankings in his two events, he finished tied for 45th in the 50 freestyle, missing State by 0.51 seconds, and 47th in the 100 freestyle, missing state by 0.85 seconds. In the combined 4 Districts, there was only 1 other freshman ahead of him in the 100 freestyle and he was tied as the top freshman in the 50 freestyle.

Coach Misty Santarossa traveled from Bowling Green to Cleveland, after her Crestview girls competed in the morning, to be able to coach the kids and it was greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank the school, community, and all of those that support the Swim Team.

Congratulations on a great season, REDBIRDS!

Cooper Sage finished 4th in the 100 freestyle and 8th in the 50 freestyle both of which qualify him for the district meet. Cooper’s points earned him a team score that ranked tied for 17th place.

LHS swimmers Nicole, Emlyn and Myah had an impressive day too, with all 6 races finishing with their best times of the season and team finishing 21st. Nicole Rooks will be the other district representative. She finished 6th in the 500 freestyle and 7th in the 100 breaststroke, dropping a combined 22.72 seconds from her seed times.
